PROTOTYPING + VISUAL DESIGN  ||    E-LEARNING APP

INTRODUCTION

I designed these landing, main content, and quiz pages an e-learning app for the Graphic Design Module of Digital Skills for Learning Designers. I’ve included wireframes and multiple iterations with revisions and project notes that demonstrate the process of my design practice.

Meet Vanessa + Jay

“We’re parents of a 4-year old starting in his first year of Pre-K this fall. Because of the pandemic school will be remote. We’re new to all of this. We’re not sure who to ask which questions to, and we don’t yet have an established community at school to connect with to informally trade notes. We were excited when the school offered us this parent training program. It will be nice to have everything in one place and we’re happy to keep up to date on how to help our son in the best way possible, even if we really don’t have the time or energy to be freshmen again”.

Need

Our users need information delivered quickly and efficiently without creating a feeling more overwhelm. Their experience with this e-learning app should be as clear and easygoing as possible. The estimated length of time for user engagement per visit is 10 minutes or less.

Design Considerations

Content in this e-learning app is best arranged in distinct modular chunks, so that users understand that each lesson’s work can be done at their own pace. It’s also important for users to visualize their progress to maintain engagement and for this reason a journey line is included. Understanding that our users are likely to be oversaturated from news headlines and imagery coming at them from screens of all shapes and sizes throughout their day I chose to make the visual design playful although I was careful not to make it too childish. The color palate of calm blues and deep reds were chosen to engage in the most soothing way possible. The layout of the opening page flows in a circular counter-clockwise flow and is intended to provide users just enough information and context as they navigate towards the CTA button.

Since this is our first year at his school, we never had a chance to get our bearings.
